Mission Statement

The part I most connected with in our Mission statement was when it states that: "The Library connects our changing community to the evolving world of ideas, information and technology." In my position I see this the most and with our community demanding more resources, more help, we connect the public with that through computer classes, online databases, internet access and various programs for adults, teens and children based on current events. Therefore making OCLS a great place to live, learn, work and play!

Open Source Information

Since I joined OCLS, technology has changed a lot! From getting more computers to new software being installed on the computers to just more information being added to our databases and system. Information is now accessed a lot faster than when I started 7 years ago. There is more information available for us (the ones who give out information) and for the public (the ones who seek it) through the internet and online databases. Before, we couldn't even explain what an online database was, now it is part of our everyday language at work. The information we get is the same, what has changed is the way we access that information (throught new technology) and the speed at which we find that information. This is the new way people search for information. On the INTERNET. It's faster than reading a book!

Health and Wellness

I thought that all the websites were helpful in one way or another. The most interesting thing was the nike plus product. Very cool! And what I got the most use out of was the Google Map Pedometer. I walk at work during my breaks and I was wondering how far I was walking. Well, now I know that I am walking about 3 miles a day!

Hello Again!

It has been a year and I am returning to take Learn 2.1! I expect to learn even more about web 2.0 applications. It will also be a good refresher for some topics and applications that I have not used since the last learn 2.0. Hope the experience to be a good one!

This is my son Adrian. Here he is 3 1/2 months. We didn't realize until a few people mentioned it, but he looks like a gerber baby!

Podcasts and Audio

With my mp3 I am first going to download an audiobook, since I have never done this to a device. Then I am going to use it to download music and maybe let my husband use it every once in a while since he is a technology enthusiast.
Before I finish I would like to thank all of those who made this course possible for all of us who took it. It was a really big help!

Digital Music

Week 9 was a little harder to comprehend. I was a little confused about what DRM really is all about. But, from what I understood, I do agree with artists protecting their music; even though someone will always find a way to break thru and illegally copy music, videos, etc. On the other hand if you as a user or member of let's say itunes, pay for a download you should not be able to manipulate or change the file; but to play it on any device you may own.
